TEACH Grants
The Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education or TEACH Grant program is for a grant mostly for the students who wish to teach in future as a career. The grant was passed in 2207 by the Congress who created the Grant that provides financial aid of about $ 4,000 per year to every student. The grant is for students who cannot afford the education and for students whose parents who have low income resources. The qualifying factor of these grants is primarily the need to agree to teach as a full time student in a private or public school. As an applicant you would need to teach to low income students to be eligible for the grants. To be able to obtain the grant you need to tutor for a least amount of 4 academic schools with 8 calendar years.
The loan agreement has to be taken seriously and needs to well thought of before applying. Any kinds of default on the grant agreement could result in the grant being converted into a loan that you need to repay. The grant’s terms and conditions need to well kept to avoid it from taking shape into the Federal District Unsubsized Stafford Loan that you would owe to the United States Department of Education. Instead of being able to utilize a grant that you need not repay you could land up not only repaying the amount as loan but also paying interest on the same.
To ensure your eligibility for the TEACH grant you need to ensure you qualify the following essentials:
- You need to be a United States Citizen or Eligible Non Citizen
- Your course work that you have enrolled yourself needs to include subjects that could assit you in teaching in the schools like Maths or science
- You have to maintain a 3.25 grade point average to meet the academic standards
- You must ensure filing and submitting the Free Application for Federal Student Aid of FAFSA
- You need to have signed the TEACH Grant Agreement to Serve
All you need to do to receive the grant is to fulfill the requirements of the TEACH grant and commit to the agreement. The agreement also provides you many options like Foreign Language, Mathematics, Reading Specialist, Science and Special Education. The agreement includes certain clauses like the subject you would teach needs to be among the high need fields. As you agree to the TEACH Grant agreement you also agree to teach to low income family schools for 4 academic years. The changes or additions by the Department of Education are also something you need to comply with when the changes are brought in.

The grant is unlike most of the others since it can get converted into a loan, hence, you should opt only after a proper research and willingness to stick to the agreement.
